Photographs
The photographs on this page are mostly images I took on the streets of New York City during 2010 and 2020. The streets were alive with art, vibrant color and creativity. Now when I take my nocturnal walks through the city, the buildings have little color and much of the creative zeal and expression seems to have left. The only places still remaining where graffiti still exists in any volume is on the lower east side. That neighborhood is slowly being gentrified completely. The fire dancers are on a beach in Hawaii. Many of the graffiti artists have moved to Brooklyn. I have been taking trips to Williamsburg, Bed Stuy, and other communities that are picking up the creative art. Crazy sculptures hanging from trees and fences, murals on stores, post office boxes, train stops and many other public places. There is a great jazz club in Brooklyn called “Orinthology”. Check it out. Great music curated by Mitch and his wife Rhea. Go. They have 2 spots, right on the same block. One is on the corner, and the other is down the side a bit. You won't be dissapointed. I have many more images on my IG page, www.instagram.com/sarahjamesjazz. Come visit!
